Deep Fried Book is a public service that promotes readership. The project invites pedestrians to batter, fry and transform their negative associations with a difficult book from their past. The frying of books leaves a good taste in the minds of readers, allowing them to move to a new chapter, or book altogether.
Participants are encouraged to bring in their own books or they can choose from a selection of discarded library books. Deep Fried Book Chefs Johnny La Falce and Drew Matott prepare books to order, with a variety of batters ranging from crushed candy to a more traditional fish fry.
Once fried, the book is vacuum sealed and presented to its owner on a paper plate. All the while, the process creates a platform for honest dialogue about the books we read and how we relate to them.
